BAND HOLDS SUCCESSFUL OPEN DAY AND EVENING CONCERT
In conjunction with the recent Grant awarded to the Band, by the Grassroots Grants programme (Hertfordshire Community Foundation), the Band held an Open Day, and Evening Concert at St Johns Church, Potters Bar, on Saturday 15th October 2011.
The Open Day was aimed at encouraging anyone interested in playing a brass instrument to come along, and a full range of instruments were available for beginners to try out.
The day was split into two sessions - a morning sessions for those who were brand new to brass, and an afternoon for those players who were learing, and interested in playing in a small group.
Over 2000 leaflets were distributed around the Potters Bar area, and Posters were advertised in the local shops. In addition, our Child Welfare Officer, Sarah Munn, visited the local Primary Schools, and carried out assemblies in order to try and encourage the youngsters along.
Overall the level of interest in both sessions was satisfactory, and we were able to make a few youngsters (and sometimes their parents/carers) very happy.
Following the Open Day, the Band performed an early evening family concert, which was well received and appreciated by the audience that attended. The Band wanted to perform a concert that appealled to the full range of ages that attended, and played a diverse programme including film and well known brass arrangements. The concert was also prepared to demonstrate the full brass repetoire, and included Cornet, Euphonium, Tenor Horn, and Eb Bass solos.
The Band's thanks go to all members who attended the full day, and especially to Sarah for her considerable effort in ensuring the day was a great success.
